Artist Development Company in South Florida: How IDA Works

If you are looking for an artist development company in South Florida, IDA (Inspire & Develop Artists) is the team I founded in 2011 to develop artists the way the major labels once did. Our IDA team is rooted in South Florida, works with artists from Miami to Palm Beach and around the world, and brings dozens of gold and platinum album credits to every artist we take on.

What an artist development company actually does

Artist development is the work between talent and a sustainable career. It covers the songs, the sound, the live show, the identity and the business decisions that decide whether an artist lasts. For decades that work lived inside record labels. Today most labels sign artists who are already developed, which leaves the hardest years of the job to the artist.

That gap is why I started IDA. An artist development company should do three things well. It should tell the truth about where an artist stands. It should build a plan that fits that artist rather than a template. And it should bring people to the table who have done the work at the highest level, so the artist is learning from experience instead of theory. I wrote more about how that shift happened in Who Does Artist Development Now That Labels Have Stopped?

Why South Florida, and why that matters less than you think

South Florida has one of the most diverse music communities anywhere. Miami alone connects Latin, hip hop, pop, electronic and rock, with deep ties to Latin America and Europe. Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach add a strong songwriter and live scene. An artist here can learn from more styles in one week than many cities offer in a year.

Location still matters less than it used to. Sessions, writing, mixing and strategy all work across time zones now, and our IDA team works with artists wherever they live. What South Florida gives us is a base where artists can come in person for the work that is better face to face: rehearsals, recording, live show development and the long conversations that shape a career.

The experience behind our IDA team

I came up as a drummer, became the in-house engineer and technologist for Aerosmith, and spent years in studios and on tours with artists at the very top of the business. I mixed the first 5.1 DTS surround music CD in 1995, and today I mix catalog albums in Dolby Atmos, including the KISS Rock And Roll Over 50th anniversary edition. I also run Modern Drummer, which keeps me close to working musicians every day.

Our IDA team holds dozens of gold and platinum albums with artists including the Rolling Stones, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Sting, Journey, Shakira, Ozzy Osbourne and Cher. My friend and collaborator Steven Doar is part of our IDA team. Steven is the musical director for Hans Zimmer Live, which means artists who work with us learn live show preparation from someone who leads one of the most demanding productions on tour. You can read about that role in What Does a Musical Director Do on Tour?

How we work with an artist

Every engagement starts with a private strategy session. We listen to the music, look at the live show and the audience data, and ask what the artist wants the next three years to look like. From there we build a plan around the few moves that matter most for that artist right now.

For some artists that means rewriting and re-recording before anything else. For others it means building the live show, tightening the identity, or preparing for label and publishing conversations so they walk in ready. Whatever the plan, the artist owns their career. Our job is to give them the experience, honesty and access to make better decisions faster. If you want a sense of when outside help makes sense, I covered that in Artist Development Consultant: When to Hire One and What to Expect.

The studio side of this work matters as much as the strategy. I wrote about what building rooms for legendary artists taught me in What Building Studios for Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne Taught Me, and those lessons show up in how we develop artists today.

Who IDA is right for

We work best with artists who already have talent and drive and are ready to treat their music as a career. That includes independent artists building toward a label or publishing deal, signed artists who need development the label no longer provides, and established artists planning a new chapter. Age and genre matter less than commitment.

If you are an artist in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach or anywhere else and want to talk about where your career goes next, apply for a private strategy session with our IDA team.
